One characteristic of all successful GIS projects is that the person executing it was able to think through the project before it even begins. The project is often worked out on paper before anyone sits down and starts clicking buttons in GIS software.
I found there is a structure for completing a GIS project successfully. I have formalized it into these six steps. Knowing these steps and applying them will help you whether you are just getting started with a GIS project or if you are in the middle of one that isn’t progressing as smoothly as you would like or has completely stalled.
When you apply these six steps to your GIS project and start working through a structure for your projects, your rate of success will skyrocket.
We're not working with any particular software package in this course. These steps apply to your project regardless of what software package you are using. This course is all about the essential structure for GIS projects whether they are small projects of your own, or if you are a GIS manager who coordinates much larger projects.
