The ArcGIS software suite is widely used industry standard for GIS analysis. This is why it is often used in introductory GIS courses. However, learning to operate the software can be a significant hurdle, especially if one does not have prior experience with software of this sort. If you have just installed ArcGIS and are not sure what do with it, this is the lesson for you. It is the first lesson I give to students in a GIS laboratory to familiarize them with the basic interface, how to load data, and manage projects. Let's get started.
